Studio Theatre at The Rose
Salt Lake City, Utah
Tickets available: 7/1/2025 at 10am.
After two seasons online and two seasons on hiatus, this free series—which has been providing plays-in-progress by Utah playwrights their first audience since 2004—returns to the Studio Theatre @ The Rose! The three plays-in-progress by Utah playwrights to be read in this season’s series are:
1. PHỞ 69: A ROMANCE by first-time playwright Wendy Dang | Saturday, February 14, 2026 @ 7pm
In PHỞ 69: A ROMANCE, Mai & Binh are the children of the owners of two rival phở restaurants. Their love story is filled with familial obligation, growth, and an ending everyone deserves.
2. APHASIA by Dee-Dee Darby-Duffin (EllaMental, “DOLs” as part of LOCAL COLOR, “Fried Chicken” as part of FULL COLOR) | Saturday, February 21, 2026 @ 7pm
In APHASIA, a mother and daughter struggle to map out a new way to communicate, which they didn’t do all that well in the first place. How do you talk to someone who can’t answer you back?
3. A.l., TOO by Mahonri Stewart (making his Plan-B debut) | Saturday, February 28, 2026 @ 7pm
In A.I. TOO, Robert & Aida have grown both restless and complacent while their robot has grown sentient. A tale of unraveling assumptions, faith crises, and the power of the poetry Langston Hughes.
Sponsored by Lee & Audrey Hollaar
The reading of KILO-WAT by Aaron Asano Swenson commemorating the Japanese American Day of Remembrance on Saturday, February 28 at 10:30am is being held in the Dumke Auditorium at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, not the Studio Theatre at The Rose. Please reserve those free tickets here.
Run time for each reading: 1 hour + post-show discussion. No late seating.
Recommended for all ages. All patrons require a ticket regardless of age.
